Welcome to Zabrina Comer's Portfolio
I am Zabrina Comer, an educator dedicated to fostering student success through AVID strategies. Explore my journey, teaching philosophy, and the impactful work I've accomplished in the classroom. This portfolio showcases my commitment to educational excellence and student achievement.
My teaching background and about me
Hello! I'm Mrs. Zabrina Comer.
I am an 8th Grade English Language Arts and AVID Elective teacher with 16 years of teaching experience. Every day, I have the privilege of teaching—and learning alongside—my "mini adults." Middle school students challenge me to think differently, laugh often, and continue growing as an educator. They remind me that relationships come before results, and those relationships are the foundation of everything we accomplish together.
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe every student has the ability to succeed when they are challenged, supported, and given opportunities to grow. For the past 13 years, I have been AVID Elective trained, and each year I continue to deepen my understanding of how to meet students where they are academically, socially, and emotionally.
I intentionally incorporate AVID strategies into all of my classes because they help students become stronger readers, writers, thinkers, collaborators, and problem-solvers. My goal is to create a classroom family where students feel valued, supported, and safe enough to ask questions, make mistakes, take academic risks, and celebrate their growth. I want every student to leave my classroom believing they are capable of achieving more than they thought possible.
What I Want People to Know About Me as a Teacher
-
I don't always get it right—but we keep trying until we do.
-
I believe growth comes from persistence, not perfection.
-
I take risks for my students, and I encourage them to take risks for themselves.
-
Learning should be meaningful, engaging, and sometimes just plain fun.
-
My classroom is built on respect, relationships, and high expectations.
-
You'll often find us laughing, collaborating, playing AVID learning games, and yes...snacking while we learn—because some of the best conversations and learning happen over a bag of chips!
Above all, I want every student who walks through my classroom door to know they belong, they matter, and someone believes in them.
Beyond the Classroom
Teaching is a huge part of who I am, but it isn't all of who I am.
Outside of school, I am:
-
A proud wife to my husband, who serves as a pastor.
-
A grateful mother of three amazing children.
-
A loving "dog mom" to our spoiled puppy.
-
Blessed to be raising my 16-year-old goddaughter.
-
Someone who loves shopping for others and finding the perfect gift.
-
A traveler who enjoys making memories with family and friends.
-
A lifelong learner who believes that growing personally and professionally never stops.
Whether I'm in the classroom, serving my community, or spending time with my family, I strive to lead with compassion, authenticity, and purpose. My hope is that every student I teach not only grows academically but also leaves my classroom knowing they are seen, valued, and capable of accomplishing great things.
At the end of the day, whether I'm in my classroom, at church, with my family, or traveling somewhere new, my greatest joy is investing in people and helping them become the very best version of themselves.
